Description:Barotitis is an inflammation of the ear caused by changes in atmospheric pressure.This condition is also called aerotitis. Barotitis is a problem of inflammation orbleeding in the middle ear caused by the difference between the air pressure in themiddle ear and the atmosphere as the time at altitude, diving, or vacuum.Symptoms:Pain in the ear and toothache are the hallmark of this disease.Treatment:Someone with acute upper respiratory infection or allergic reaction is recommendednot to fly or dive. However, if these activities had to be done, a nasal vasoconstrictorsuch as phenylephrine 0.25 percent applied 30 minutes before flight or divingactivities can help overcome this problem.
